Abstract

The authors selected 40 teeth (molars and bicuspids) extracted from both sex patients with different ages, resulting for surgical, prosthetic or orthodontics needs. After a cleaning process, they were stored in physiologic serum. On each buccal and lingual surfaces were prepared Black’s class V cavities, with their gingival margins on the enamel cement junction, resulting in total 80 preparations. Every teeth was restored by the same operator using the same silver alloy and the same mercury proportion. They received lining treatment with simple and modified varnishes before amalgam condensation. After the experimental procedure, the Rhodamine B was used as an identifying agent. Then, a longitudinal section was made following an axial buco-lingual plan in which passed over the restoration center. Finally, the authors checked the penetration score of the coloring agent using optical microscopy.
