Abstract

Introduction: Ulcers that are difficult to heal are characterized as a pathology that affects about 20 million people around the world. PDT photodynamic therapy is a method that acts in the healing phases, biostimulating the tissue and promoting the death of microorganisms affected by UV.
Methods: To assess the presence of bacteria in the ulcers, a stuart swab was used. the medicine based on curcumin was applied to the ulcer and it was immediately occluded with aluminum foil for 20 minutes.
Results: During the entire collection period, there was growth of bacteria in the ulcers. The participants obtained a reduction in the area of the ulcers, evaluated by the quantification of the Image J software.
Conclusion: PDT was able to accelerate the healing time of venous ulcers, due to its bactericidal effect, the technique still needs further studies.
