Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the need for isolation and social distancing to contain the virus. Individuals affected by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) became vulnerable to yet another threat to their health status after the advent of the pandemic.
Objective: The health conditions of elderly patients with COPD during COVID-19
Methods: were verified. In an observational, quantitative, cross-sectional study, instruments were applied to identify the sociodemographic profile, as well as the clinical impact of COPD symptoms.
Results: The age range of the participants was between 60 and 80 years, and most of them were female. One out of 4 participants had used tobacco during the pandemic period. The vast majority (96%) had taken restraint measures, leading to physical inactivity.
Conclusion: Greater attention to the clinical impact of COPD on the daily life of patients with the disease is suggested, since the significant functional impairment imposed by the disease may influence negative outcomes in case of infection during COVID-19 pandemic.
