Evaluation of quality of life of patients admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Teresina – PI

Introduction: Increase in life expectancy due to the development of medicine and the resources available in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However, many patients, retrieved from the underlying disease, disability and changes to remain negative about the quality of life (QOL). Objectives: To assess QOL during ICU admission and compare it two months after discharge. Methods: Descriptive and observational longitudinal study was conducted with 33 ICU patients older than 18 years, of both sexes. The QOL questionnaire SF-36 was carried out during the first 24 hours of ICU admission, and two months after discharge. Scores were analyzed using SPSS ®, version 17.0, and reliability Student’s t-test, p <0.05. Results: The review, compared with values on admission, showed lower values in seven of the SF-36 scores. Conclusion: The ICU stay has caused significant impact on the QOL of survivors.Downloads
