Who are the caregivers of elderly at the end of life attended at Family Health Strategy?

Introduction: End of life cause dependence on the elderly, causing impact on family and caregiver burden. Objective: To identify the profile of caregivers of patients at end of life attended at Family Health Strategy of a city of São Paulo. Methods: The research was descriptive and exploratory of quantitative approach, conducted in FHS units of Botucatu/SP, by consulting the files. Data were organized by descriptive statistics. Results: Of 54 caregivers, 83.3% were relatives, 22.2% were between 40 and 50 years, 70.4% were women, 42.6% had four to eight years of school approval and 20.3% were retired. Conclusions: Caregivers of elderly people are predominantly middle-aged women, mostly of relatives. A better understanding of those caregivers' profiles may help guide actions for professional care, especially to ease the burden on sole caregivers.Downloads
