Comparative analysis of the profile of diabetic users of Health Basic Units

Introduction: With increasing life expectancy of the population, growing number of chronic diseases, including diabetes which has become a serious public health problem. Objective: To describe a comparative assessment of socio-demographic, nutritional and biochemical profiles of diabetic people using a Health Basic Units. Methods: The sample consisted by 24 diabetics. We performed biochemical and nutritional assessment. The food consumption of 24 hours and the socio-demographic profile was verified by questionnaire. Results: There was creatinine decrease (p<0.001), and glycated hemoglobin increase (p=0.004). In relation to food consumption, calcium, sodium and potassium showed a significant difference when compared to intakes with reference values. Conclusion: There was a noteworthy prevalence of overweight and obesity in the two moments analysed, in addition to inadequate intake of micronutrients in relation to the recommended values for population groups. We found an increase in glycated hemoglobin and reduction creatinine at the end of the study.Downloads
