Objective: To describe the sociodemographic profile of caregivers of long-term care institutions for the elderly (LSIE) from Itaúna (MG) and evaluate the relationship between depressive symptoms, quality of life and anxiety. There were included caregivers who assisted the elderly with daily activities in both LSIE in Itaúna. Data was assessed by a sociodemographic interview, assessment of quality of life, anxiety and depressive symptoms. Results: Of the 25 caregivers, the majority was female, sedentary, married with elementary education, and 48% to 92% of caregivers had depressive symptoms and anxiety, respectively. A negative correlation between depressive symptoms and quality of life was found and positive correlation between depressive symptoms and anxiety. Conclusion: Results confirm the need for a multidisciplinary approach to problems of caregivers so they can take better care of the institutionalized elderly.Downloads
