The cerebral vascular accident (CVA) or stroke is the third cause of death and the main reason of physical impairment, affecting especially elderly people. Among the risk factors more often associated with it here are systemic arterial hypertension (SAH), Diabetes mellitus, smoking and dietary habits. Twenty five patients with post-CVA condition had their profile evaluated in the Section of Adult Neurology of the Clínica de Fisioterapia da Uninove considering their life style, loss of weight, anthropometry and the nutritional habits. Following the evaluation, the patients received personalized nutritional orientation with a hypocalloric and hyposodic diet. Sixteen out of 25 patients had arterial pressure (AP) above the expected, of which 13 had the waist-hips ratio (WHR) indicating risk of cardiovascular diseases. The AP and WHR of the sampled population showed a risk factor to the neurological condition studied. Both nutritional evaluation and orientation helped the improvement e rehabilitation of the patients with disabilities post-CVA.Downloads
