Clinical profile of patients treated in physical therapy care to plastic surgery: retrospective analysis

Introduction: In order to offer an appropriate physiotherapy service for plastic surgery patients, it is necessary to understand their characteristics, needs, limitations and complaints. Objective: To identify the profile of patients treated in outpatient physical therapy care to plastic surgery. Methods: A retrospective study by medical records analysis of the outpatient Physical Therapy of the Ipiranga Hospital, Sao Paulo (SP), from February 2009 to July 2010, was carried out. Statistical analysis was described in percentage, mean and standard deviation, and used Equality Test of Two Proportions and Mann-Whitney. Results: It were included 102 medical records, being 96.1% female, with mean age of 45±13 years old, submitted to abdominoplasty (50.5%) and blepharoplasty (19.2%), and showing complaints of pain (34.3%) and edema (33.3%). Conclusion: The clinical profile of patients treated in outpatient physical therapy care to plastic surgery was characterized by woman, about 45 years old, submitted to abdominoplasty and blepharoplasty with pain and edema.Downloads
