Introduction: Physical exercise has been used with good results in the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome risk factors. Objective: To analyze the effects of a physical exercise program upon the biochemical profile of subjects with metabolic syndrome. Methods: A group of 19 individuals with metabolic syndrome underwent strength training and walking activities (1h30min) three times a week; a second group of 11 individuals attended informational lectures on nutrition. All patients underwent blood tests, blood pressure measurements, anthropometry, and tests of strength and cardiovascular endurance before and after the 12-week training period. Results: The group undergoing training showed an increase in HDL-C and glucose levels and a decrease in those of hs-CRP when compared to baselines. Conclusion: The physical exercise caused a reduction in hs-CRP levels and an increase in those of HDL-C cholesterol.Downloads
