Effects of a multiprofessional program for treatment of obesity on feeding behavior and frequency in adolescents: differences between sexes

Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of a Multiprofessional Program of Obesity Treatment (PMTO) on feeding habits in male and female adolescents. Methods: In this study 53 adolescents with excess of weight aged from 11 to 18 years old, 30 girls, were included. The analysis of feeding habits was made with a food frequency questionnaire and a 24 hours recall. It was reported data related to eight weeks of intervention. Results: We observed reduction in candies consumption (p=0.011) in girls, and pasta (p=0.039) and eggs (p=0.040) in boys. Total energy intake decreased in girls (p=0.006). The female group also demonstrated reduction of carbohydrates (p=0.016), proteins (p=0.035), fat (p=0.018) and polyunsaturated fat (p=0.011). In relation to micronutrients, sodium consumption was decreased (p=0.003) in the same group. Conclusions: Changes in feeding habits were greater in girls.Downloads
