The impacts of the new curricular proposal of the State of São Paulo

Currently the State Department of Education of São Paulo implemented a New Curricular Proposal intending to improve the quality of education. The evaluation of this implementation will be measured by the Index of Educational Development of the State of São Paulo (IDESP). In this research, it is aimed to examine the curriculum in the daily work of the school units that have low levels of learning, in order to check how they are working and accepting this proposal. A theoretical framework will be used defining what is curriculum, associated with the social cultural process (SACRISTÁN, 2000), public policies (PARO, 2001), and school culture (REIS; FERRETTI, 2004). At first, in the research conducted in 2008 in one of the schools, some teachers pointed out the difficulty of working with the teachers’ book, because many students could not follow the content, so teachers needed to elaborate adjustments.
