Abstract

This article refers to a study on the political process of teaching the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) to teaching certificate undergraduates. Through readings and reflections on  developed research in the field, this work aims to analyze the perspective of such teaching to teachers. To do so, it presents a mapping of academic research on this teaching devel-oped in Brazil until 2013 on sites such as SciElo and CAPES among others. Based on the analysis of this research, this work outlines discussion axes and presents a reflection on the myths, objectives and effects of LIBRAS upon teacher education. It concludes that the teaching of LIBRAS in the education of the teacher must, in its perspective, contribute to the deconstruction of homogenized oppressive ideologies about the Deaf.
