Abstract

Introduction: The knowledge about multicomponent exercise training (ME) effects on anthropometric parameters is unclear. Objective: To evaluate the effects of multicomponent exercise training (ME) in older women. Methods: Eighteen independent older women (ages 70 ± 5 years) participated voluntarily on ME program (3 x week/60 min) for four months. The exercise intensity was controlled by heart rate (70-80% of maximal heart rate). The following parameters were evaluated: body weight, body mass index, fat body, fat and lean weight. Results: There were no differences (p> 0.05) in body weight (742 vs. 743; kg), BMI (315 vs. 315; kg/m2) and fat weight (298 vs. 239; kg) after four months of ME. However, after four month, we have found decreased of FB (385 vs. 325%; p>0.03) and increments on lean weight (45 vs. 515 kg; p<0.04). Conclusion: The practice of ME is beneficial to promoting changes in body composition in healthy elderly subjects.
