Abstract

The present text aims to present the results of a bibliographical and documentary research on the (in) existence of an educational project for Afro-American quilombolas children in Paraná at the beginning and early twentieth century. A period in which republican liberal discourses propagated the idea of 'freedom' and 'equality' and proposed that education should be offered by the State and be available to all.  But despite Republican speeches, not all the children of Paraná had access to schools. In this way, the following question was raised: was there a concern on the part of the State to create an educational project for the care of the Afro-American children of Paraná who lived in the peripheral regions of the urban centers or in the Quilombos? From the study carried out, it is concluded that in the first decades after the abolition of slavery in Paraná some Afro-American “quilombolas” children had no access to public schools, however, this did not mean the guarantee and the effectiveness of the right of access to all schools.
