Some studies on student attrition and persistence

Abstract

This article discusses some research on student attrition and persistence in presencial and distance educational systems. The selected researches were conducted in several countries, such as England, the United States of America, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Uganda, Brazil, and others. The first part presents studies conducted on face-to-face educational system and the second part is addressed towards studies conducted on distance educational systems specially the those considered as first and second generation of at a distance educational system. The article indicates that educational institutions must implement student support services in order to prevent attrition and to foster educational success.
