: The aim of this paper is to analyze the policies on teacher education proposed by the World Bank. The study is driven by a neo-Gramscian theoretical approach, mainly through the writings of R. Cox and S. Gill on international relations, and it was explored the role of that international institution, developed from the so-called "international civil society", in the formulation of the Brazilian. The major role of Basic Education in Brazil reflects the World Bank vision on the role of education in the process of Brazilian development, as well as the role of Brazil in the new international division of labor.Downloads
