The text treats the an essential aspect of work and profession´s teaching: the knowledge. It’s considering especially the initial formation in the higher education, privileged moment in which teachers come into contact with such knowledge. To this, established the relationship between work, profession and knowledge. Then, we analyze the basis of relevant literature, policies of teacher formation and the characteristics of their achievement in higher education, indicated finally, some problems that still require confrontation.
