Sponsored Links as a Tool to Attract Customers in the Hotel Industry

Sponsored links play a role in increasing the speed and quality of responses to searches done on search sites on the Internet. Hotels are part of the process since many searches for information regarding destinations and hotels are made over the Internet. The objective of this article is to identify the occurrence of sponsored links for a hotel in Santa Catarina for seekers using Google, Portal Terra e Portal Uol. The research conducted is classified as exploratory, descriptive, and quantitative. The sample was composed of 2,713 sponsored links, from searches carried out with the words "hotels" and "inn" and geographical terms "Florianópolis," "Joinville," "Blumenau," "Bombinhas" and "Balneário Camboriú.” The searches were conducted from March 10th 2010 to March 15th 2010, resulting in 450 searches. The results show that researchers could better use the tool and that much of the use of sponsored links are done by classified clusters of sites for hotels and online travel agencies. It was revealed that the tool is mostly used on weekends and during the afternoon and evening periods. We conclude that the tool is currently indispensable for the tourism industry, serving as an aid to the distribution of these facilities and the increase in hotel occupancy.
