This text has an intention to reflect on literacy hence conceptions of literate and illiterate people. Also, it aims at dealing with the implications or perspectives on education hence such reflection and how these concepts were built through the times. Due to the evidence that the process of school literacy for a great number of educators is still connected with alphabetization and the act of teaching how to read and write, an analysis which focuses on school literacy practices as a kind of social literacy practice, is proposed. This practice centers on both the social function of communication and the speech in oral or written language that produce understanding among those involved. Thus it is not a means to impose knowledge and neglect, that which was formerly acquired.Downloads
