Abstract

Objective: Given the recurrence of issues related to conducting interviews in qualitative research, as well as note-taking and preliminary data analysis during them, this editorial aims to explore the literature and our experience to highlight these problems and suggest ways to overcome them.

Methods: Review of the literature and use of our own experiences, in a well-founded manner and with examples, in arguments, explanations, and useful recommendations for improving research.

Originality/Relevance: The editorial details justifications and methods for ways of conducting interviews, taking notes, and performing preliminary analyses during them, particularly in the semi-structured interview format. These notes and analyses are often overlooked even in specialized publications, but fundamental care regarding them is necessary to enhance the quality, depth, and potential contribution of qualitative interviews.

Contributions: We provide numerous bibliographic references and useful recommendations for (future) researchers. The references, descriptions, and recommendations on interviews, note-taking, and data analysis help to access the best potential of informants, interviewers, data, and results.
