Different streams of thought subsidize the licensed in School Physical Education (SPE). This heterogeneity of understandings are translated in traditional and renewing paths, determining the necessity of identifying the social/educational representations among adolescents engaged in programs of sporting/educational initiation. From this perspective, this study tried to analyze and interpret such social representations, based on a qualitative approach (37 questionnaires distributed in the city of São Paulo among four institutions that develop such programs – a private school, an olympic center, two small sporting schools). It was possible to identify that the young people submitted to the research are conscious about the importance of avoiding illicit drugs and violence. Other discoveries made along the research are related to the work in group, responsibility and respect among others categories of the collective discourse. From the results, it was possible to suggest some more specific contends coming from the students themselves, going beyond the traditionalism of practice by practice and searching to achieve the status of a citizen formation methodology.Downloads
